My name is Mary Abau Joseph and I am 21 years of age. I joined Yei Teacher Training College (YTTC) in February 2010.
I was compelled to join the college for two reasons. Firstly I am an orphan. My parents were killed during the war. I grew up in an orphanage here in Yei, South Sudan, where I completed my Sudan School Certificate. I feel I need to get the necessary knowledge and skills from the college and give back to the community that has brought me up. Secondly, there are no trained teachers in most of our primary schools in the country due to many years of war. The level of education in our country is still very low. I joined YTTC so that the new generation can benefit and have the opportunity to receive the same knowledge I am getting at the college.
I want to thank our donors for the effort they are exerting in supporting students at the college. It is through them that I have this privilege of joining such an institution because I personally could not afford this myself.
Concerning life at campus, it is good. The college has well qualified tutors who are at least holding degrees, or even Masters degrees, whereby they provide good service to the students. One thing I like from our tutors is that they are so committed in provision of their services. Hence by the end of this course, students will be able to pass the appropriate knowledge to their pupils in primary schools.
The campus has a well-equipped library with all types of scholastic materials and computers for computer lessons for both tutors and student teachers. Furthermore, the campus has DSTV services for refreshment, other activities like music, dance and drama, Scripture Union activities, games and sports such as netball, football and volleyball and above all we have morning devotions every Monday through to Friday. Due to participation in the abovementioned, Yei Teacher Training College is training the whole human being to progress in all aspects of life; mentally, socially, physically, economically and above all spiritually.
In conclusion, I would like to appreciate the college administration for uplifting my education standards and thank all the donors for at least raising the education system in our country of Sudan.
