| The college
implemented the Phase Teacher Training modules as requested
by the then Secretariat of Education, as well as other
short intensive curriculum based training courses for
practicing teachers. During this time an advisory committee
was formed involving Government and church representatives
to guide the development of the college.
In 2005 a positive independent, participatory evaluation
was conducted with the resolution that the college
needed to expand to meet the growing demand for trained
teachers in Greater Yei. It was also advised that
a Principal should be appointed and the college advisory
committee should become an Interim Board of Governors
and then trained to become a full BOG. It was also
agreed to implement the 2 year pre-service TT leading
to the Award of Primary Teacher Certificate in line
with the expectations of the then newly formed MoEST
The college was successful in an application to UNHCR
for funds for construction. This with some additional
funds from Stromme enabled the college to construct
a double classroom block, 2 dormitories, administrative
block and a library.
The construction was completed in 2006 which enabled
the college to accept the first Pre-Service class
in May 2006 with a second intake of students joining
in May 2007 lifting the student roll to around 90.
In 2008 two classes of First year students were enrolled
lifting the roll towards 150 students. Meanwhile the
number of academic, administrative and support staff
in the college has increased to manage the growth.
During 2008 a Strategic Planning Workshop was conducted
involving the key stakeholders. The consensus was
that the college should expand the facilities in order
to accommodate 300 students in order to meet the increasing
demand for places. An Australian engineer has prepared
a site plan of YTTC with detailed plans for a new
storey classroom block, Multi-purpose hall, kitchen
and dormitory for female students with children.
The BOG of YTTC believes that the college now has
good leadership and a strong staff team with the necessary
systems in place to manage the planned growth. However
the urgent need of funds for construction of the necessary
facilities is hindering the potential of the college
to achieve its vision.
Your support and co-operation to enable the college
to implement the planned growth is sincerely requested |
